  • What are the elements of DevOps ? Culture: People over processes and tools. Software is made by and for people Automation: Automation is essential for DevOps to gain quick feedback Measurement: DevOps finds a specific path to measurement: Quality and shared (or at least aligned) incentives are critical. Sharing: Creates a culture where people share ideas, process and tools.   System Thinking Amplify Feedback Loops Culture of continual experimentation and learning   Methods (Continous X) Tools and Technologies Architecture
  • Describe 4 out of 7 different types of continuous activities in the DevOps lifecycle. • Continuous Planning: Continuously identify requirements for example by evaluat-ing and prioritizing user stories. • Continuous Integration: Different developers are constantly working on a soft-ware project and continuously integrate new developments. • Continuous Testing: This includes early stage testing and test automation wher-ever it is possible • Continuous Delivery: Finding ways to deploy new version in a short time based on automated deployment processes. • Continuous Deployment: Automated distribution of software. Automation can be achieved by standardization. • Continuous Monitoring: Integration between developers and operations. Devel-opers can use that monitoring data to gain knowledge for further improvement of the system. • Continuous feedback, innovation, improvement based on lean principles with ex-perimentation
  • Name and describe the outcome and benefits of DevOps. Possible outcome of DevOps are continuous deployment of functionality, automation of workflows, traceability of change and shared goals, responsibilities, processes and usage of tools. Continuous deployment of functionality is focused on delivering functionality quickly and with low risk Automation of workflows has the goal to reduce rework and overhead when deploying new patches The outcome behind Traceability of changes is to provide bug fixes to production where customer create value. The benefits of DevOps could be improved agility (in business and IT), the capability to be more responsive to business needs, an increased organizational effectiveness for example increased time spent of value adding activities and a better focus on core function, increased quality – this could be increased availability, an increased change success rate and also fewer failures through automation. One of the most beneficial aspects may be the improved customer satisfaction and possibility to meet the customers’ needs, since this is one the the core aspects in every business.
  • What is the DevOps life cycle and methods? Life Cycle: Requirements Development Build Testing Deployment Execution   Methods: Continuous Planning: -Evaluate and prioritize user stories -Implementation of most important user stories -Gathering feedback of users Continuous Integration: -Different developers / developer teams are working on one software project -Check-in every change of a software and a create new version Continuous Testing: -Early stage testing -Test automation -Providing feedback and results Continuous Delivery: -Requires Continuous Integration -Based on automated release & deployment processes -Risk reduction and greater efficiency based also on standardized deployment processes Continuous Deployment: -Tests/evaluation approved -Automated, toolsupported distribution of software Continuous Monitoring: -Developers are integrated into operations -Own knowledge about new changes -Contact persons for incidents -Can reverse to previous version Continuous Improvement: -Based on lean principles with experimentation small improvements can be reached"
  • Why are KPIs so important for DevOps? Name one indicator for Agility and one for Availability. KPIs foster a shared understanding between development and operations and ease the measurement of a successful collaboration.   Agility KPIs: Increase deployment rate OR React faste on changing market needs   Availability KPIs: Reduce failures after deployment OR Minimize Mean-Time-to-Detect & Repair (MTTD, MTTR)
