Psychological Terminology in English (Subject) / Excercise and mood (Lesson)
- What is an “Endogenous morphine”? [1 point] It’s an by our own body produced (endegenous) morphine which can either ease (senken) pain or be the cause for euphoria.
- Experimental research on the effect of exercise on mood is difficult to measure in the lab because of, for example, group bias (Gruppenzwang) and other confounding factors such as belonging to a group, trying something new, or even the instructor’s expectations. What could be meant here by group bias? [2 points] Different groups have a different definition of success and won’t put the same level of energy in their training. Those who like to exercise more are actually more eager (eifrig) to make progress with their exercise.
- What is William Morgen’s distraction hypothesis? [1 point] (Ablenkungshypothese) Patients can be distracted (abgelenkt werden) from their worries by focussing on other tasks like physical activity.
