  • Disruptive innovations (=störende Innovationen) In some industries leading companies manage the most innovations quite good, but the are having there difficulties with seemingly simple innovations - these innovations are technological straightforward - initially they don´t satisfy customers in established markets - instead, they are sold to niche or new markets - over time, the performance of the established, but also of the new technology will grow faster than market needs - eventually, the new technology supplants the the old technology even in the established, main market => these innovations are called "disruptive innovations
  • definition of disruptive innovations Disruptive innovations bring a very different value proposition than has been available previously to a market. They underperform established products in mainstream markets, but they have other features that a few fringe and generally new customers value.
  • core aspects of disruptive technologies - products based on disruptive technologies are typically cheaper, simpler, smaller and more convenient (praktisch) to use - disruptive technologies typically are first commercialized in emerging or insignificant markets
  • user and producer innovators user innovators: an individual or company, develops an innovation in order to use it -> e.g.: plane, dish washer or whirlpool producer innovators: an individual or company, develops an innovation in order to sell it
  • what is a radical innovation? comparsion to other innovation types - says something about the novelty of a product, established companies aim to develop new products or to gain new information to help the branch to develop itself -> sustaining innovations = improve the performance of established products along dimensions of performance, that mainstream customers in major markets have valued -> disruptive innovations = failed at the beginning on the main markets, instead stimulate needs on new or niche markets, but over time, they may substitute the established products on the main markets, new companies challenge other established companies in the branch
