- Basics Discribes the unique dinamic of a market with a turbulence scale and the behavior a firm needs to be succesfull in the diffrent turbulent markets Turbulence is determined by the cangeability and predictability of the external enviroment of an organization Different turbulence levels: Repetitive: repetitive, slow change. e.g. historical artwork market Expanding: slow incremental change. e.g. raw material market Changing: fast incremental change. e.g. retail market Discontinuos: discontinuos predictable change. e.g. mobile communication Suprising: discontinuos unprdictable change. e.g. medical market
- Implecations of the turbulence analysis Succesfull behavior of a firm ist determined by the turbulence level of the external enviroment Succesfull companies match their strtegy and capability with the turbulence level of the enviroment A firms performance level is optimum, when three conditions are met: Aggressinveness of the firms strategic behavior matches the enviromental turbulence Responiveness of the firms capabibity matches the aggressiveness of it's strategy The components of the firms capability must be supportive of one other Matching of external and internal turbulence levels for optimum performance

- Approach of turbulence Analysis 1. Determine the future turbulece level of the external enviroment in 4 Steps: complexity of enviroment visibility of future rapidity of change familarity of events 2. Determine an actual internal ressource profile Result: actual internal turbulence charactaristics (Stable/ Preserving, react on change and follow, etc...) 3. Determine the GAP between future external and actual internal turbulence 4. management task: match the internal dynamic with the external dynamic for optimum future performance
