  • Measures of Shape Tools that can be used to describe the shape of a distribution of data.
  • Symmetrical The right half is a mirror image of the left half.
  • Skewness Shows that the distribution lacks symmetry, used to denote the data is sparse at one end and piled at the other end. This means an absence of symmetry and extreme values in one side of a distribution.
  • Coefficient of Skewness Compares the mean and median in light of the magnitude to the standard deviation.
  • Kurtosis Describes the peakedness of a distribution. It can be leptokurtic (high and thin), mesokurtic (normal in shape) or platykurtic (flat and spread  out).
  • Box and Whisker Plot A diagram that utilizes the median, the first and the third quartile and the minimum and maximum value in the data set to depict a distribution graphically.
