  • What does CDR stand for? CDR = Complementarity-Determining Residues -> in hypervariable region of an antibody –> recognize the “Epitope”
  • How are polyclonal antibodies generated? 1. Injection of an animal with the antigen2. Several rounds of serum isolation and repeated antigen injection3. Direct application of the antibody or purification using immobilized antigen
  • Name the steps of FACS. 1. Isolate cells from tissue 2. Dissociate cells 3. Stain with fluorescence (e.g. primary/secondary antibody) 4. Sorting based on scatter and fluorescence:- STREAM of cells (separated)- Fluorescence of each cell is measured- Droplets formed by vibration (1 cell per droplet)- Droplets enter charged ring – become charged- Charging depends on fluorescence and scatter- Cells with (correct) charge are deflected- The others are waste
  • What does PET stand for? PET = Positron Emission Tomography
  • What is the Stokes Shift? The Stokes Shift is the shift between absorption and emission wavelength due to energy loss.
  • What is DNA barcoding? DNA barcoding is a taxonomic method that uses a designated portion of a specific geneor genes (proposed to be analogous to a barcode) to identify an organism to species.
