Climate Change effects positively and enlarges their area of activity e.g.: pine weevil o Shorter development time o Increased number of generations within one period o More storm felling caused by warmer winters o More drought events o Increased damage caused by longer growing season o Feeding during fall
- Measures to stem calamities? -> Replacing even – aged spruce dominated forest by: o Continuous cover forestry – no clear felling o Mixed forests – no monoculture anymore o Short rotation forestry – no thinning o Exotic tree species?
- Possible (non-chemical) plant protections? Weaknesses? • coating (coat covers half the plant from the base up e.g. Conniflex), negative effects to plant health. • barrier protection (may strangle the plant)
