  • How are lake marl-benches (chalk benches) formed? In lake litoral zones through „biogenic decalcification“. Consumtion of CO2 by plants -> Ca(CO)3 is accumulated. In AUstria for example the turquoise color of the Wörthersee and the Weißensee
  • Flooded Au-Grassland (wetland) reselmble... The Potamal (or flat moors)
  • Who pratices Parthenogenesis (form of asexual reproduction)? Rotatoria, Cladocera (water fleas)
  • What is a biofilm? A biofilm is any group of microorganisms (bacterium, algae/seaweeds,…) in which cells stick to each other on a surface
  • What is Phosphorus based on? Inorganic, dissolved, organic dissolved and organic phophate particles
  • What belongs to biodiversity? Habitat diversity, species diversity, genetic diversity
  • Which measures prottect eutrophication/restoration in a lake? 1) Removal of nutrient-rich bottom sediments (only feasible for smaller waters) 2) Harvest of organic material (e.g. macrophytes, fish), however it requires a lot of efforts and is seen as ecologically problematic. 3) Extraction of the hypolimnion with the so-called "Olschewski-pipe"; usually causes only mild reoligotrophication or condition stabilization. 4)Incorporation of inorganic suspended solids, which adsorb and carry away the dissolved nutrients and cause sedimentation. The aforementioned measures are rather efficient in smaller water bodies. The restoration possibilities of larger water bodies are very limited.
  • How do you call the region in lakes, where no light can get in? Profundal
  • Which type of diet do muddenizen have (Schlammbankbewohner)? Detrituvores
  • The anomalous density of water leads to Freezing of water bodys from top to the bottom, and deep waterbody temperature stability of 4 degrees

  • How high is the load of phosphorus in oligotrophic lakes? Middle to low, <10 mg Pt/m^3
