Causes• Human papilloma virus • HPV-1, 2 and 4 (Common warts)• HPV-3 (Plane warts)• HPV-6, 11, 16 and 18 (Genital warts)
Symptoms • Common warts (hands): Smooth skin-coloured papule• Plantar warts: Rough surface, which protrudes and surrounded by a horny collar• Mosaic warts (soles): Rough marginated plaques• Plane warts (face, brow, backs of the hands, shaven legs of women): Smooth flat-topped papules, skin-coloured or light brown• Facial warts (beard area): Often ugly• Anogenital warts: Papillomatous cauliflower-like lesions with a moist macerated vascular surface
Complications • Epidermodysplasia verruciformis• Malignant change
Differential diagnosis• Molloscum contagiosum • Plantar corns • Granuloma annulare lesions• Condyloma lata• Amelanotic melanomasm, squamous cell carcinomas
Diagnose• Dermatoscopic examination• Skin biopsy
Treatment• Palmoplantar warts: Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, wart paints or plasters containing salicylic acid• Anogenital warts: Podophyllotoxin cream, imiquimod cream, podophyllin paint, cryotherapy, electrosurgery, laser treatment• Facial common warts: Electrocautary, hyfrecator, crytherapy• Plane warts: Wart paint, tretinoin gel, imiquimod cream, gentle cryotherapy
