Anaerobic, motile protazoan with flagella- Transmission: sexual (cannot exist outside human because it cannot form cysts)

Vaginitis – foul-smelling, yellow or green discharge; itching and burning.- In male patients, this organism can cause urethritis, although it is often asymptomatic.

Diagnosis: - Motile, flagellated trophozoites on wet mount (saline microscopy)- Cervical punctations ("strawberry cervix")- Vaginal pH >4.5 (elevated)

- Treatment: Metronidazole for patient and partner
