classification by the potential from value destruction from misfits between the business units and parent's management style (high to low) and the potential to add value (from low to high)

areas:

Heartland: misfits low, value added high

edge of heartland: misfits a bit higher, value added a bit lower

ballast: low misfits, low value added

value trap: high misfits, high value addes

alien territory: migh misfits, low value added
