- important names are Lakoff, Cawley and Newmeyer the standard theory and the assumptions made there were criticised. Major points were concepts of syntax being the generative component and phonology and semantics being the interpretive component

- Generative Semantics wasnt successful, because it had to face too many problems. semantic analysis remains especially of verbs into atomic predicates, which is part of various approaches to semantics -> analyses can't describe all aspects of languages
