Togavirus (enveloped, ⊕ ssRNA)

Causes rubella, once known as German 3-day measles.

Presentation:- Low-grade fever- Postauricular and nuchal lymphadenopathy- Arthralgias- Fine, maculopapular, confluent rash that starts on face and spreads centrifugally to involve trunk and extremities.

Causes mild disease in children but serious congenital disease.

Congenital rubella findings:- Cataracts- Deafness- Cardiac defects- "Blueberry muffin" appearance due to dermal extramedullary hematopoiesis

- Live vaccine (with mumps and measles) at 12-15 months and again at 2 years old
