Zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetti, no arthropod vector

- Spores inhaled as aerosols from cattle/sheep amniotic fluid, animal waste

Acute Q fever:- Nonfebrile illness with fever lasting >10 days- Fatigue, myalgia- Severe headaches, which are often retroorbital and associated with photophobic- Pneumonia, most common x-ray abnormalitiy is lobar consolidation

Chronic Q fever: often lethal- Most common cause of culture Θ endocarditis in patients with valvular disease

Labs: - Leukocyte count is often normal- Increased liver enzymes- Thrombocytopenia
